At 4pm on Thursday, 7 September 2023, nominations closed for candidates in the 2023 Shire of Koorda (Shire) Ordinary Elections, at which time two nominations had been received for the four vacancies on Council.
In accordance with section 4.57 of the Local Government Act 1995 (the Act), an extraordinary election is to be held to fill this vacancy.
In this regard, and as per section 4.9 (1) (a) of the Act, the Shire President, Cr Jannah Stratford, has ‘decided on and fixed’ the day in which this extraordinary election is to be conducted.

Candidate Information Webinar
A Candidate Information Webinar (for the 2023 Ordinary Elections) was held on Monday 14 August 2023. The candidate webinar was hosted at WALGA by State President Cr Karen Chappel and featuring presentations from the Electoral Commission, the Department and WALGA staff. As well as describing the key processes and roles in becoming a Councillor, the webinar included a Question-and-Answer session addressing direct queries from participants.

Election Gifts
Both candidates and donors must disclose information about any election related gift with a value of $300 or more that was given or promised within the 6-month period prior to the relevant election day.
A gift includes:
- money
- non-monetary item of value
- in kind or where there is inadequate financial consideration, such as the receipt of a discount (where the difference or discount is worth more than $300)
- a financial or other contribution to travel
- the provision of a service for no consideration or for inadequate consideration
- a firm promise or agreement to give a gift at some future time.
A 'gift' does not include a gift by will, a relative, or an item that does not relate to the candidate’s candidature, or the provision of volunteer labour.
