Committees of Council
Council has appointed the following advisory committees of Council.

Audit & Risk Committee
The primary objective of the Audit and Risk Management Committee is to accept responsibility for the annual external audit and liaise with the local government’s auditor so that Council can be satisfied with the performance of the local government in managing its financial affairs. The Committee will also oversee critical areas including risk management & internal audit.
Reports from the committee will assist Council in discharging its legislative responsibilities of controlling the local government’s affairs, determining the local government’s policies and overseeing the allocation of the local government’s finances and resources. The committee will ensure openness in the local government’s financial reporting and will liaise with the CEO to ensure the effective and efficient management of local government’s financial accounting systems and compliance with legislation.

Awards Committee
The primary objective of the Awards Committee is to assess applications received for each of the four categories for the Koorda Community Awards and select a recipient for each category (if applicable).

Bushfire Advisory Committee
Koorda Bush Fire Advisory Committee is established pursuant to Section 5.8 of the Local Government Act 1995 and Section 67 of the Bush Fires Act 1954 within the local government boundaries of the Shire of Koorda. The committees objective is to provide efficient and responsive fire service and as a Committee to advise the Council on matters relating to bush fire, make recommendations and advise Council on all matters relating to bush fire planning, control, management and rehabilitation.
To liaise with other emergency organisations and relevant bodies with regard to Fire and Emergency Management within the Shire of Koorda.
Reports from the committee will assist Council in discharging its legislative responsibilities of controlling the local government’s affairs, determining the local government’s policies and overseeing the allocation of the local government’s finances and resources.

Community Grants Committee
The purpose of the Community Grants Assessment Committee is to oversee and make determinations on all matters associated with the Koorda Community Grants Program.

Governance Committee
The Committee is established to support Council in fulfilling its responsibility under section 2.7(2)(b) of the Act in determining the policies of the local government and assisting Council in carrying out its legislative functions in the making, amending, revoking and reviewing of local laws under Part 3, Division 2 of the Act.

Local Emergency Management Committee
The Shire of Koorda Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC) is established under the WA Emergency Management Act 2005, to prepare and manage local community emergencies.
The LEMC consists of representatives from essential services including the Shire of Koorda, Local Police, Department of Fire and Emergency Service (DFES), Child Protection Family Services, WA Country Health, St John Ambulance, local Industry representatives, utilities and other government agencies.
The Committee meets on a regular basis to plan strategies to prevent emergencies occurring and to be prepared when they do occur. Part of the preparation is the holding of emergency exercises to test the efficiency of the operational procedures of agencies responding to an emergency and to make improvements where necessary.
The LEMC has a proactive approach to emergency management that is abbreviated to PPRR – Prevention, Preparedness, Response and Recovery.
